- Koji-Ki
- A Japanese book completed in AD 712 in which is recounted the Japanese Creation Legend. In the beginning In and Yo, corresponding to the Chinese Yang and Yin, being the male and female principles of Dualism, lay dormant in the choatic egg, which eventually split into heaven and earth, which latter floated on the surface of the water. The first god to appear was Kuni-Toko-Tachi, from whom proceeded seven generations of divine beings, culminating in Izanagi and Izanami, the first human pair. At the time when the waters of the Deluge receded and the islands of the Pacific began to appear above the surface, this couple settled on Onogoro. Their children were Amaterasu, Tsuki-Yomi, Susano, and Kagu-Tsuchi, and from them was descended the royal line of Japan. Although this doctrine was enforced under the impact of militant Shintoism during the Second World War, in actual fact the relationship be tween the Japanese ruling family and the aboriginal inhabitants was so slight as to be almost non-existent.
